5 Bookish Aesthetic Boards

I thought it be fun to put a few aesthetic boards together for some of my favorite books and share them with you all. Hopefully they will get you excited to read some of my favorites. The aesthetic boards took way longer to put together than I thought they would, but Im happy with the results considering how hard it was to come up with picture ideas for some of them. Im thinking of making more of these in the future but for now I have 5 to talk about.

Shadows Between Us
Publication: February 25th, 2020

Summary

Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

Aesthetic Board

My inspiration for this board was of course our leading lady and her murderous tendencies. The dress signifies her love of fashion and coming up with new designs like dresses with pants underneath. Then theres the kiss to represent the wonderful slytherin romance, the castle for the setting, and the king with his shadow ability. I also added the kings mothers favorite black rose as its mentionned quite a few times over the course of the story and theres even a ball thrown in her honor. Finally we have the masked man who could represent the assassin or the bandit who's been stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor.

Lifelike
Publication: May 29th, 2018

Summary

On a floating junkyard beneath a radiation sky, a deadly secret lies buried in the scrap.

Eve isn’t looking for secrets—she’s too busy looking over her shoulder. The robot gladiator she’s just spent six months building has been reduced to a smoking wreck, and the only thing keeping her Grandpa from the grave was the fistful of credits she just lost to the bookies. To top it off, she’s discovered she can destroy electronics with the power of her mind, and the puritanical Brotherhood are building a coffin her size. If she’s ever had a worse day, Eve can’t remember it.

But when Eve discovers the ruins of an android boy named Ezekiel in the scrap pile she calls home, her entire world comes crashing down. With her best friend Lemon Fresh and her robotic conscience, Cricket, in tow, she and Ezekiel will trek across deserts of irradiated glass, infiltrate towering megacities and scour the graveyard of humanity’s greatest folly to save the ones Eve loves, and learn the dark secrets of her past.

Even if those secrets were better off staying buried

Aesthetic Board

I had to start this aesthetic board with our besties Eve and her side kick Lemon Fresh followed by their little robot companion Cricket and the lifelike Ezekiel. The next two images were inspired by the futuristic setting with its radiation soaked pollution and piles of garbage. Then we have the scavengers which represent the most common lifestyle in this world. Theres also the religious brotherhood set on killing anyone accused of having unnatural abilities including Eve. Finally we have the wardom robot ready to fight in its next match.

The Kingdom
Publication: May 28th, 2019

Summary

Welcome to the Kingdom... where 'Happily Ever After' isn't just a promise, but a rule.

Glimmering like a jewel behind its gateway, The Kingdom is an immersive fantasy theme park where guests soar on virtual dragons, castles loom like giants, and bioengineered species--formerly extinct--roam free.

Ana is one of seven Fantasists, beautiful "princesses" engineered to make dreams come true. When she meets park employee Owen, Ana begins to experience emotions beyond her programming including, for the first time... love.

But the fairytale becomes a nightmare when Ana is accused of murdering Owen, igniting the trial of the century. Through courtroom testimony, interviews, and Ana's memories of Owen, emerges a tale of love, lies, and cruelty--and what it truly means to be human.

Aesthetic Board

I started by featuring the android princesses using real models because they're made to look like us, but I added an image of an android to make sure that part was evident and to reinforce that creepy element of them being programmed to do whatever they're told. I had to include a mermaid because those scenes played an important role in the story. Another big part was the murder mystery which is shown by the crime scene tape. As for the cell, that represents both the court interviews and the main characters trial as well as the fact that the androids are not allowed to leave the park which is another prison sentence all on its own. Then I wanted images of the magical amusement park setting with the castle and the rollercoaster rides. The park is well known for its variety of instinct and hybrid animals so I had to add the polar bear after how much it affected me.

Devouring Gray
Publication: April 2nd, 2019

Summary

On the edge of town a beast haunts the woods, trapped in the Gray, its bonds loosening…

Uprooted from the city, Violet Saunders doesn’t have much hope of fitting in at her new school in Four Paths, a town almost buried in the woodlands of rural New York. The fact that she’s descended from one of the town’s founders doesn’t help much, either—her new neighbours treat her with distant respect, and something very like fear. When she meets Justin, May, Isaac, and Harper, all children of founder families, and sees the otherworldly destruction they can wreak, she starts to wonder if the townsfolk are right to be afraid.

When bodies start to appear in the woods, the locals become downright hostile. Can the teenagers solve the mystery of Four Paths, and their own part in it, before another calamity strikes?

Aesthetic Board

This was one of the easier aesthetic boards to put together since the book had many defining elements. I started with the group of founding family teenagers and their different powers like tarot reading, the gargoyle statue, and the resurrected cat. Then there's the fog and the forest where the monster is trapped as well as the have the old journal that our main character uses to piece together information to help with the monster growing power. I also included an image of the old house the main character moves into when she arrives in town with her mother and I wanted that image to have a stormy vibe to it since thats one of the major scenes in the book.

Gilded Wolves
Publication: January 15th, 2019

Summary

No one believes in them. But soon no one will forget them.

It's 1889. The city is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. Here, no one keeps tabs on dark truths better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. When the elite, ever-powerful Order of Babel coerces him to help them on a mission, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.

To hunt down the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin calls upon a band of unlikely experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian banished from his home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in arms if not blood.

Together, they will join Séverin as he explores the dark, glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the course of history--but only if they can stay alive.

Aesthetic Board

I started this board with two characters from our heist crew mingling at a high society get together and scoping out their next mark. Then I went with the effeil tower to highlight the Paris setting and the main characters hotel where most of the scheming happens. After that I chose a picture of an old map and one of the crew members trying decipher a puzzle to give it that treasure hunting vibe. Theres also that spiral staircase leading down to represent their search for a hidden underground room or possibly a secret society. Finally I added the family ring an a magical gold artifact since those are very important to the story. This was one of the hardest boards to put together.
