Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

I love doing this tag every year and seeing everyones answers. Its such a great way to recap the first half of the year. Since I wasnt able to mention all the books I wanted to I have a mid year favorites post coming very soon. It will have some more indepth thoughts for most of the books mentionned in this tag. To cover as many books as possible I did only use a book once, but a couple of them could have answered multiple questions.

Best Book You've Read So Far?

Kingdom

This incredible scifi thriller is set in a twisted fairytale amusement park where android princesses are programmed to make every visitors dreams come true. The author wrote the story in such an intelligent way with great themes and a captivating mystery. The mix media made the experience so immersive and the two time lines were expertly done.

Best Sequel You've Read So Far?

Honor Bound

This could have probably made my favorite book, but since its a sequel I decided to use it for this question. I havent read the third book yet but I already consider this series to be an all time favorite. The world has these giant space whales who can carry passengers and the main character gets chosen to travel on board one of them. All the characters are phenomenal and the plot is super compelling.

Biggest Disappointment?

Scavenge the Stars

This isnt my lowest rated book but its probably my biggest disapointment. I feel bad saying that since it was a review copy but the book just left me wanting more. It was super slow and not in a good way. My main issue was how we skip all the revenge scheming. I also thought they're would be more focus on pirates or sailing but the main character spends most of the book on land.

Biggest Surprise?

Red Scrolls Of Magic

Ive enjoyed the shadowhunter books in the past but its been a long time since Ive given one 5 stars so I really didnt expect to love this one as much as I did. The characters and their relationships were amazing. Plus we get some awesome demon fighting.

Favorite New Author?

Amy Rose Capetta

Ive read and loved both Lost Coast & Once and Future from this author. I loved the characters, the queer elements and the exciting plot. I seriously cant wait ot read more by them.

Newest Fictional Crush?

Darkest Part of The Forest

The main characters love interest was very kind and a little wild. Just the way I like them. I wish we were getting a sequel or a novella to explore both the brother and the sisters new relationships.

Newest Favorite Character?

In An Absent Dream

I met Lundi in previous books but she only truly became a favorite character this year after reading the fourth book in the wayward series. Shes such a good friend and I totally understand her struggle with indecision.

Newest Favorite Side Character?

Iron Druid Series

Ive been binging the series this year and Ive absolutely fell in love with the main characters talking dog, Oberon. He's just such a memorable and funny character. I know he will be a favorite for a long time to come, especially since I have a major soft spot for animals.

Book That Made You Cry?

Bone Charmer

I dont think Ive cried while reading this year, but this book certainly got me close. The ending crushed me and I wasnt expecting it at all. I was really surprised the author went there.

Book That Made You Happy?

Rise

The way the three sisters support and care for each other made me so happy. Its one of the best sibling relationships Ive ever read.

New Release You Haven't Read Yet, But Want To?

Defy the Fates

I hate not finishing up series, especially ones Ive really been enjoying. The first book of this series was a favorite the year it was published and I enjoyed the sequel a little bit less but I still want to see how the trilogy wraps up. I actually have a few series I really want to get to by the end of the year.

Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2019?

I have plenty of anticipated releases for the second half of the year but sequels are always a little bit more exciting when you loved the first book. I have review copies for most of my anticipated releases, but I have 3 here that I currently dont have and would love to read as soon as possible.

Children of Vengeance and Virtue

Queen of Nothing

Girls of Storm and Shadows

Favorite Review You've Written This Year?

This question was difficult to answer since my review style stays pretty similar. I also feel like all of them could use some improvement. I finally went with King of Fools because despite loving it I feel like I was to give it a balanced review.

Most Beautiful Book You Acquired So Far This Year?

I seriously couldn't pick between these two stunning books. I love their similar green theme with the main character and some plants on the cover. Ones more realistic and the others more animated but both styles are beautiful in my opinion.

Sorcery of Thorns

Wilder Girls

What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

I have a bunch of review copies I need to read before the end of the year so to narrow it down I only picked the ones I have physical copies. Dont get me wrong Im super excited for the egalleys too, but there's just so many of them I wouldnt know how to only pick a few.

River of Royal Blood

Grace Year

Good Luck Girls

Everyone's probably already done this tag already, but in case they havent I tag:
